The main activity of The Public Beneficial Society (PBS) is to conduct the center of daily services as a specialised institution for blind citizen and other handicapped people. In centre of daily activities meet people with different level of reconciliation of their handicap. They also learn to handle different skills and abilities. This enables to motivate them to overcome the results of their handicap and to live with the level of their abilities and skills. In TyfloCentrum the people can obtain the multilateral information about specific services for disabled people, they acquire, increase or deepen the knowledge or skills f. e. in the sphere of the social contact, self-operation, or handling with the electronic compensative aids. This abilities help the clients to live self independently in the greater extent, and enables them to be independent on the help of other people. Handling this skills helps to increase their self-confidence and to prepare them for requalification, for their working and social integration.

The main idea of the center is to ensure the social services for blind and visually impaired people, which were realized in the past by the local Centres of CBU. It means the ensuring of services, following or preceding training courses of social rehabilitation and the retraining courses. The common denominator of this services is the integration of blind and visually impaired people into the everyday life of the society. All this is done on the base of reaching the higher level of independent solving the problems, which are often in the case of this handicap.

We are speaking about following activities and social services:

• seeking for clients, including the first contact with the client and his/her family;
• activities connected with the information activity, aimed to the expert and laic public. Repeated meetings with clients and members of their families, providing psychological support and practical help how to solve their problems (assistance in the contact with the authorities, arranging and coordination the professional trainings and services, solving the simplest problems of the self-operation etc.)
• cooperation with the authorities and companies by the removing of the architectonic barriers, to help the clients of Tyflocentrum and other Non profitable societies.
• providing one-shot services, which enable the clients to live alone, to overcome the non-standard situations (guiding service, reading service, using help of volunteers and activists symbolically rewarded.)
• arranging of lectures led by various specialists, f. e. psychologists.
• socio-therapeutic clubs preceding or following the basic rehabilitation (Clubs of reading and writing Braill script, cooking, Do-it-youself clubs)
• communicative and other courses increasing the compensation of visual handicap consequences, like in the scope of social contacts.
• operation training of special aids for everyday life.
• operation training of complicated electronic devices as digital reading magnifiers, digital reading devices with voice or touching output, electronic notebooks and additive devices.
• providing complex information and consultations in the sphere of electronic compensative devices, about the possibilities of its obtaining and information about technical parameters, prices and operating; professional counselling by the choice of various devices, with the purpose of the maximal contentment of the clieOptimisationtion of exploiting the devices offered due to the notice 182/91. Reading the texts and other services, which are connected with the transfer of the text to the bigger type of script or into the Braill script;
• Organizing of one-shot activities, supporting and developing the rehabilitation of blind and visually impaired people (trips, outings with training movement in the area, competitions in special skills f. e. in orientation in space, in the knowledge of Braills script, in typing, work with the computer, manual skill without eye control.
• close connection with special schools for blind people in our region, in the purpose of help to future graduates by their integration in the society; support of multilateral activities of disabled youth.
• publishing activity, printing of various reporting magazines for visually impaired people and promotion towards the wide public.
